Just putting this in the blog so it becomes an official event of 2010. Didn’t want to write about it the first time we went because I knew we would go back again. Didn’t want to write about it the second time, because that is when we declared that we were going every Wednesday (which really works out to be about every other Wednesday) for the rest of the summer. But now I am getting nostaligic given we only have one more night marked on the calendar to go to Geeters Bar & Grill before the kids head back to school. So here's the history ... after coming back from a family vacation in Gulf Shores in 2008, I declared that we had visited the ultimate kid-friendly restaurant – filled with good food, drinks, informalities and plenty of sand. Not to mention it was owned by Jimmy Buffet’s sister. Everyone grew tired of my Lu Lu’s stories, and I am sure this summer everyone is growing tired of my love affair with a small little sports bar in Mason called Geeters. Proof of my ramblings came yesterday, when close to everyone I know forwarded on the Groupon “deal of the day” to me with some sort of smart ass remark because it featured Geeters. Ok, some folks did have good intentions, and none of it stopped me and my family from buying the maximum amount of gift certificates. Thank you very much!
But back to the concept. It might not be as tropical or touristy and the menu might not be as extensive or exquisite as Lu Lu’s, but it does have a celebrity connection (it’s owned by former Bengal, Tim McGee) and it offers sand – loads of sand – that surrounds a patio and welcomes children of all ages to run wild, play pick-up soccer, swing on the Rainbow play set, and, most importantly, leave their parents alone so they can relax, talk peacefully to other adults and enjoy a pitcher (or two) of Miller Lite.
It’s been a good Foley family tradition this summer. With or without the Groupon deal.
