The Madness Keeps me from Watching Basketball

After five days I have come to some conclusions to explain my lack of enthusiasm and commitment to this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament. It’s not that I am no longer interested in college sports or a B-ball fan. It’s just a few other things in life keep me pre-occupied. In summary, here’s why March Madness was different (and well, a bit more enjoyable) before kids …
  • You watched four months of college basketball instead of the same four episodes of Dora daily on TiVo.
  • You were included in catching the game after work; now someone has to look after the kids.
  • You were also allowed to sit at home and watch a full day of second round action, with pizza and beer; now someone still has to look after the kids.
  • You now use more diaper wipes instead of wet naps at BW3s.
  • You now hear your kids screaming louder than all the over zealous fans at Shooters.
  • You used to feel like the players were your peers, and now they look 12 and a skip away from your kids’ generation.
  • You now use PTO for ear infections and the croup, instead of a spontaneous Thursday afternoon to catch the first round of games.
  • You actually worked at the office that is hosting the office pool you have entered.
  • You never missed the last second free throw to chase down a 22 month old running with scissors.

I truly feel like the underdog this year, and I am not anticipating a Cinderella run.
