Although we learned that Alex hates the beach, Avery has some serious bowel issues and my Dad likes Bud Lime, we still had plenty of laughs and good times during our week in Seaside, Florida. Both my kids did manage to do their share of unnecessary (and extremely loud) whining and crying – so much we could have put together an audition tape for Supernanny – but in between the lows Avery road the waves with no fear and Alex hunted crabs like a seasoned professional.
A few more discoveries: the Muse kids and Cox kids get along like BFFs (thanks to a quick stop in Atlanta on our drive down), Fat Tire and corn hole go nicely together, Alex and Tyler still like to dress a like, Avery prefers to hang with the teenagers, Allie is a teenager, none of the kids needed a tutorial on how to use the iPad, all of the kids like Black Eyed Peas, my family will ignore the red flag, it can rain on a Foley family vacation, my camera is EOL (thanks to salt water and sand and you will notice in the quality of pictures) and Ben is a fisherman, giving Uncle Andy some company on the lake.
I got in a few bike rides, which qualified for both my training and my downtime from Avery, Andy ate his quota in seafood, which is his only requirement when vacationing by the ocean, and Alex lost his first tooth, which officially makes him ready for first grade.
We are now back after a rough 12 hour-drive (see bowel issue and whining comments above), but it was so nice to wake up in our own beds and not in a closet (note: it was a great sized house, but our kids found a way to take over the Master King and Andy and I found ourselves on the air mattress one too many times). Clothes are unpacked. Laundry is done. Car is washed. And pictures are downloaded. I can only hope for a few hours to relax before I am forced to log into work again tomorrow morning and fly off to Phoenix tomorrow night. Then it is back to reality …
