Sleeping in until 9:00 am. Long lunches that don’t involve cutting up some else’s food. All day shopping not at the Baby Gap. Happy hour not on my driveway. Townie Bars with too much smoke. Strolling the lake without the fear of someone falling in. Touring windmills without any explanation (don't ask). Literally stopping to smell the roses (or tulips) because there were not two kids requiring my attention, energy, ability to prepare food, capacity to clean up spills sanity, creativity, patience, care and love every second that I am awake (and asleep). This Mother’s Day I took time off from being a mother to spend the weekend with my mom, along with my sisters and sister-in-law, in a lazy, artsy beach town on Lake Michigan. It might have been the best present Andy and the kids could have given me -- and there was no last minute scramble at the flower shop.
